Simba was rescued from the black market, an old, majestic German Shepherd being sold as bait. He was found on a chain with no water, no shade, standing unknowingly to what his fate could have been.
His skin was raw with hardly any fur, just burnt from the sun. He was tick and flea infested and wearing a muzzle so tight his eyes were being squashed, causing inflammation. His body had wounds that were infected. Simba was so skinny and malnourished that he must have been hungry his whole life.
Years of being used for fighting… years of neglect, abuse, torture and corruption.
The car journey with Simba to the vets was the best feeling because Simba looked so free.
He hates his head being touched, it scares him. The dog fighters grab the dogs’ ears, throw them around by their ears and bite them. They really push these dogs to their limits. It will take a while until Simba realises his days of fighting are over.
Apart from that, Simba is a beautiful old soul. He loves the attention, he loves to be stroked, he loves eating out of your hands. Not so keen on dogs understandably, but with time and training, he might be able to overcome this.
Simba is still in the vets and on a road to recovery. Soon, he’ll travel to the UK, where he has a space waiting for him at the Penny Jones Animal Hospice. You’ll be able to follow his story there once he arrives.
