Bella was being sold by children. They said she was only 5 years old. It was very clear that Bella was much older and had been used for breeding. Years of being exploited, and when her owners no longer wanted to keep her, they disposed of her at a dog market.
The worst part is the market is for dog fighters. The only reason she would have been purchased is in hope that she may have another litter, or to be used as bait. People don’t attend this market to look for dogs that require veterinary care.
We took Bella to safety, and despite the neglect she had faced, her blood test results weren’t as bad as expected. She needed vitamins and supplements, but nothing too serious. She was very skinny, bones were visible, but we made sure she got a good diet.
Her ear had an old bite wound which had healed and left her ear deformed. Plus her legs needed to regain muscle from where she had been locked away without exercise.
Bella was such a sweet girl and so gentle. She didn’t react to dogs or cats at all. She allowed you to touch her no problem. It is amazing how forgiving some of these dogs are.
At the market there are a few stolen dogs. It’s possible Bella was maybe someone’s loved pet at some point, which would explain why she was so placid and trusting.
Bella had a rescue space waiting for her in England, but sadly, her old injuries had taken their toll. After several months of love and care, she passed away in her sleep on 2 December 2024 💔
