Frequently Asked Questions

Can dogs in Egypt travel to the UK?

Yes! We have sent a number of our dogs to the UK to be adopted. A specialist agent oversees the transport arrangements and takes care of the paperwork, and dogs either fly into Paris and make the rest of the journey by car, or they fly direct to Heathrow.

Do dogs need to go into quarantine?

All of our animals are vaccinated for rabies, and before they leave Egypt, their blood is tested by a DEFRA-approved laboratory to ensure they have rabies antibodies. This vaccination and testing process takes around four months and ensures no quarantine is required once they reach the UK.

How much is the adoption fee?

For our UK-based dogs, the adoption fee varies depending on the dog. We do ask a little more for puppies. A rough figure would be £300 – £500, which is comparable to other rescues.

For dogs coming from Egypt, we don’t ask for an adoption fee, but we do ask that the adopter covers their travel costs. Travel costs vary depending on which route is used, and how many dogs are travelling together. A rough estimate is £930 – £1,700. We understand this is a lot, and we will help with fundraising towards this, but unfortuately, we can’t get a discount on flights, taxes, transport, or agent costs.

For more info about why we charge an adoption fee, please see this post.

What happens if I can’t keep the dog anymore?

We do have a small network of foster homes in the UK, and we will work with you to move the dog to one of these. Please understand that this will not happen overnight – we don’t have foster homes sitting empty and waiting.

Our Egyptian dogs will have been with us for at least five months prior to travel, and during that time, we get to know them pretty well. So before you adopt, we’ll spend a lot of time asking questions and getting to know you in order to ensure the dog is a good match for your home and family.

Will I need a home check?

Yes, we do perform home checks before rehoming any of our dogs. Ideally, this will be done in person with a volunteer coming to your home, but sometimes we can do them via video.

The home check is to ensure that your home is the right match for a dog (for example, is the fence high enough for a large dog), and to ensure you know what to expect from the dog when it arrives.

If you rent your home, we may also ask to see proof that your landlord is happy for you to have a pet.
