Rocky is one of the most horrific cases we’ve come across, which is saying a lot. He’s yet another victim of dog fighters. His ear is missing, his body is evidence he was used as bait – covered with bite wounds old and new – and as if that isn’t enough, his leg was chopped off with a machete.
He’s now in the vets receiving much-needed medical attention. He’s had amputation surgery above the fracture, and depending on how his recovery goes, we hope to get a prosthetic leg made for him. Prosthetics aren’t available in Egypt, so the vet there has written a referral to send to a British vet.
We have seen many dogs used as bait, together with the after effects, but Rocky is by far the worst case we have ever encountered.
Just when you think humans can’t get any crueler, we meet Rocky.
Update:
Rocky’s surgery site has healed well, and he’s adapting well to life on three legs.
He’s currently boarding at the farm and sharing a kennel with Liel.
January 2025 update:
Rocky has received a wonderful offer! A team of NHS prostheticians in the UK has offered to make Rocky a prosthetic leg in their own time so he can walk on four legs again. Such generous and amazing people!
In order to get the treatment he needs, Rocky will need to stay in Norfolk, near the prosthetics team. He’s looking for an angel willing to foster or adopt him so he can get his new leg.
