Zeus was found by a local man named Tarek who helps to rescue animals, and he said it was the worst case of neglect he’s ever seen. For days, Tarek was going back and giving Zeus food and water while trying to negotiate with the owner. And for days the owner refused to release him, but finally he agreed.
Messy is now in the vets and under assessment.
He has cryptorchid (an undescended testicle). The testicle that is visible has severe orchitis. On top of that, he has an umbilical hernia, he was infested with ticks, and his fur was completely matted. He had to be shaved.
As his legs are unstable, he’s on Vitamin B and pain killers while we wait for the results of his blood tests.
He was given a shower by the vet, and that must have been the best he’s felt in his whole life.
He needs a mouth inspection but he has been a bit snappy… Who can blame him?
How could he trust humans so easily after all he has been through?
Update 24 January 2025:
We have new results come in for our boy..
•Zeus’s left kidney has loss of CMD
•Osteoarthritis in both hip joints and left stifle joint
•Cardiomegaly ( enlargement of the heart)
•Hepatomegaly ( enlargement of the liver)
•Calcified nodules at thoracic level which could be due to a tumour or previous infection
Zeus is now receiving neutronics, pain medication, and then a follow-up is required.
Because of his heart, even if he recovers, he will not be able to travel to the UK. This means that he’ll most likely become a permanent resident of the new sanctuary, and he’ll need monthly sponsors to cover his ongoing costs.
